Describing her new single to 95bFM's Rachel Ashby this morning as "like the embodiment of a dream", Proteins Of Magic aka Kelly Steven has unveiled the dramatically swirling 'Flesh It Out' and announced an intimate headline event at Tāmaki Makaurau's Freida Margolis. Filmed and edited by Ranger Garrett, and made with support from NZ On Air, Proteins Of Magic sports a majestic gravity-defying, devil horn hairstyle in the off-the-cuff, Handycam visuals for 'Flesh It Out', capturing everyday adventures in and around Nashville.

Based in both Aotearoa and Tennessee, Proteins Of Magic has recently been touring extensively across the planet, unleashing her signature mesmerising live performances at such high profile international festivals as Primavera (Spain) and The Great Escape (UK) — in the near future hitting BIGSOUND (Brisbane) and SXSW (Sydney) as part of her spring Australasia tour. The artist stated 'Flesh It Out' was written while "caught in the daze of a flashback in which she had seen a young couple having an intimate moment during the day on the beach"...

“The hope and the idealism, the youthful sheen on their skin, being unaware of what life lies ahead for them. That is what triggered the start of the lyrical process. I think the song lays out an emotionally treacherous life for them, a day in the life spanning 10 years and 2min 52 seconds.

I liked the idea of it being lo-fi and raw, and I wanted the filming to be like the recording process. Less formulated. The cameras were actually literally held together with tape and things were falling apart. I wanted it to be a ‘day in the life’ in Nashville, in a manic, irregular, fractured way.”
