Lines Of Flight 2023 Full Lineup Announced - OV PAIN, Gabie Strong (US) + More
Forging new pathways in experimental music and sound since the year 2000, the full lineup has been revealed for Ōtepoti's widely beloved Lines of Flight 2023 festival — happening over three days in Port Chalmers and at Dunedin Public Art Gallery this October. New additions include genre-obliterating Melbourne / Dunedin duo OV PAIN (Renee Barrance and Tim Player), California-based noise artist Gabie Strong, Shape of a Mouth (pianist Hermione Johnson with multi-instrumentalist Ro Rushton-Greene) and the Uniform Mobile Disco team of DJ Kiran Dass, Ducklingmonster, and Grans Remedy. They're joining an exceptional bill of sonically untethered artists from Aotearoa and beyond, including free noise figureheads The Dead C, Ōtautahi guitar innovator Roy Montgomery, founder of Bananafish probably the finest "music" magazine ever Seymour Glass (Glands of External Secretion), taonga pūoro / live electronics duo Abigail Aroha Jensen & Tash van Schaardenburg, Melbourne improvisers the Charles Ives Singers, and the first performance in 28 years from drone trio Surface of the Earth.
Founded by legendary percussionist Peter Stapleton (who sadly passed away in 2020), Lines Of Flight is making a more than welcome return following four years hiatus. Festival passes and tickets are available from today, look forward to the daily timetable to be revealed soon and note: "There will also be some associated events happening on the streets of Port Chalmers during the festival, so keep an ear to the ground".

Press release:
Following the initial lineup announcement in July, we are excited to announce the balance of the performers for the Lines of Flight festival, to be held in Otepoti Dunedin later this year.
Los Angeles noise musician Gabie Strong brings a lifetime of art and activism to the festival, and Shape of a Mouth combines the prepared piano magic of Hermione Johnson with multi-instrumentalist Ro Rushton-Greene.
Melbourne-based Ov Pain (Renee Balance/Elan Vital and Tim Player/Opposite Sex) make a welcome return visit to Otepoti, as do the beautiful improvised soundscapes of guitarist/field recorder Peter Wright.
A Dream is Like a Magic Cloak pairs the improvised twin volin attack of Motoko Kikkawa and Ro Rushton-Greene with the guitar of Peter Porteous, and the hymnal folk of Angelica Archangelica (Kate Reid) and sonic artistry of Rose James complete the strong local contingent.
To close out the festival, DJ Kiran Dass will now be joined by Ducklingmonster and Grans Remedy – the Uniform Mobile Disco!
There will also be some associated events happening on the streets of Port Chalmers during the festival, so keep an ear to the ground.
The much-loved Lines of Flight experimental music festival returns after a four year absence. First held in 2000, the festival will be celebrating its twelfth iteration. Founder and key organiser Peter Stapleton died in 2020, and this festival will be a tribute to his amazing and inspiring contributions to the underground musical landscape of Aotearoa.
