Danica Bryant Drops New Single 'Libra'

Danica Bryant Drops New Single 'Libra'

Samantha Cheong / Friday 15th September, 2023 9:50AM

Pōneke's Danica Bryant charges up her crystals with new pop anthem ‘Libra’. Made with support from NZ On Air, the upbeat yet personal track pokes fun at people who excuse their bad behaviour by citing their star sign. Joyously channeling the spirit of "early Katy Perry", the single feels like dancing in the grand moonlight after finally cutting ties with someone toxic. The genius of her lyrics creeps along your funny bone before you’ve had time to register the snarky bumps. Bryant feels at her strongest position in the cosmos with her relatable and sagacious craft, and confident production.

Bryant never sleeps, as she also reviews music and chats on TikTok as a self-declared “music gossip girl”. “Libra is about an extremely difficult friend break-up I went through that really damaged my sense of self. It took a long time and a lot of sad songs that never saw the light of day to process that I'd wrongfully been made to feel to blame, when in actuality I was a victim of this person's outlandish emotional abuse. Years down the line I was retelling the story to my co-writers on the track, and finally I could just look back and laugh, because it was all so ridiculous. We honed in on the fact that this friend would obsessively explain their actions by saying it was just "Libra tendencies", and likewise, that I was predetermined to be the problem because I'm a Gemini. Then we just exaggerated that to the Nth degree and ended up with 'Libra' as this huge banger about the whole situation.”
