Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü, Sugar) Touring New Zealand in November

Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü, Sugar) Touring New Zealand in November

Chris Cudby / Monday 8th April, 2024 9:00AM

Co-creator of Hüsker Dü's era-defining hardcore punk / power-pop output in the late '70s and '80s (Krist Novoselic once described Nirvana's style as "nothing new; Hüsker Dü did it before us"), then lead songwriting force behind Sugar during the alt-rock explosion of the '90s, Bob Mould is returning to Aotearoa for his first local headline dates in 22 years. A heroically productive figure whose solo releases alone include 15 studio albums and counting — from 1989's Workbook right up to 2020's Blue Hearts — Mould will treat fans to "material from across his entire career, including tracks from Hüsker Dü, Sugar, and his considerable solo catalogue" in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland.

Bob Mould's music has had such impact it's been the subject of two distinct retrospectives in recent years, Hüsker Dü's double-disc live collection Tonite Longhorn (recorded between 1979 and 1980, released in 2023) and Distortion: 1989-2019 box set (released in 2020), surveying his work with Sugar and solo over a thirty year period. Hailed as a key influence on Dave Grohl (Mould has played live as a member of Foo Fighters), Green Day, Therapy? and even Pixies, anyone who loves Hüsker Dü and / or Sugar would be nuts to miss these longed-for events, brought to you by Plus1. Presales available on Wednesday with general public releases available on Friday — note the details below and set your alarms...

"It has been so long since I travelled to New Zealand for concerts, and I can’t wait to reconnect with everyone, when I play songs from the past, present, and future."
