REPAIRS Share New Album 'Disappointing Sequel'
Tāmaki Makaurau's REPAIRS follow through on a smashing run of singles with their sophomore record Disappointing Sequel, raising the bar with thirteen jagged (both sonically and emotionally) noise-punk anthems. Produced by the group, the team of Martin Phillips, Nicola Edwards and James Milne's new album was recorded at DIY den The Vault by Phillips and Ciara Bernstein, feeling tightly wound yet perfectly at ease as the REPAIRS unleash their in-the-red guitar / bass / drums barrage — punctuated by impressionistic soundscape passages allowing moments to breathe (including noise collage 'A Fatiguing Ouroboros') — venturing into shoegazey zones on 'Auto Icon', 'Slow Burner (A Song for Gus)' and 'LYLAS'.
Harnessing a wizard's lab of squally textures, REPAIRS don't shy away from tricky lyrical territory either, addressing "never-ending anxiety, crushing disappointment, the importance of connection – and why being angry matters" with clenched teeth passion. Listeners should also note the streaming platforms version closes with a bonus massive cover of Mclusky's 2002 classic 'To Hell With Good Intentions'. It all adds up to one of the most inaccurately titled albums in local music history, as REPAIRS fans ought to be well stoked with Disappointing Sequel. Don't miss them celebrating their new record with friends galore touring from this Friday onwards, including a free Record Store Day performance at Flying Out in Tāmaki on Saturday, where you can also grab a vinyl LP copy to take home...
