Listen To Family Band's Debut EP 'The Dog Box'
Refining their clamorous post-punk sound down to a viscous, tar-like essence, Family Band's new The Dog Box EP feels like the assured work of grizzled pros, but is in fact the debut release from the Tāmaki trio of Sam Shepherd, Maté Vella and Brandee Thorburn. Among the fresh tracks on offer, aggressively tight busted-cog rhythms mulch listeners on über-heavy instrumental 'Big Brain', 'Shib's Disco' elevates via a fuzzy distorted fog recalling the soundscape magnificence of Bailterspace's Vortura before swerving into craggy terrain, while opener 'Another Year Struck Off' sets up the five track journey with pitilessly piercing feedback, doomy vocal intonations and high-tension riff crawl. Emotionally scorched SRN hits 'Large Dirt Piles' and 'Spit' round out Family Band's impeccably balanced collection, recorded by Martin Philips (REPAIRS) at The Vault (RIP). Join them celebrating this Saturday at 605 Morningside and next weekend at Kirikiriroa's Last Place, plus with REPAIRS and friends at The Wine Cellar on 17th May...
