Listen To Matt Joe Gow & Kerryn Fields' New Album 'I Remember You'
When two particular songwriting spellbinders join forces, “honest songwriting and ragged instrumentation” magic is made. That’s the case with Melbourne-based Kiwi songwriters Matt Joe Gow and Kerryn Fields, who have made their first collaborative album together called I Remember You. Gow’s love of Americana music and Fields’ talent for folk make a wonderful addition to our radio stations and stereos, as they bring out the harmonica and mandolin too. ‘Your Heart of Gold’ croons like the happy-go-lucky Neil Young ballad while ‘Prairie Song’ gets our loins riled up to line dance. Listen out for the aptly named ‘Whirlwind’ and vivid lyrics of ‘Dead Flowers & Stale Wine,’ plus the interesting intervals of the ‘Love Ya Like I Can’ riff. Gow brings a masculine and sensual voice that swirls upward with Fields’ harmonies as her deft fingers cross the fretboard.
Finalist for Te Manu Taki Tuawhenua o te Tau / Best Country Artist at this year's Aotearoa Music Awards, Dunedin-raised Gow and Te Kuiti’s Fields will give us something to remember them by, as the award-winning pair commence their Australasian tour from this Sunday onwards. Our turn comes from 17th May, starting at Lyttleton’s Wunderbar. Head along to see the matchmade duo show this month…
