Watch Vor-stellen's Video For 'Folding Of The Time'
The most immersive new Flying Nun release since [furiously scans Discogs] let's say Crude's Inner City Guitar Perspectives (1996), Vor-stellen's debut double album Parallelograms goes deep across four expansive tracks, none shorter than twelve minutes in length. With a hypnotic sound not unlike viewing interlocking moire patterns moving around of their own volition, their accurately titled 'Folding Of The Time' has received a stunning visual treatment created by digital artist Gregory Bennett. Inhabiting a slowly rotating, partitioned virtual space evocative of speaker cabinets, comic book panels, isometric RPGS and / or Lemmings, a multitude of monochrome figures buzz around in rhythm with Vor-stellen's primarily instrumental motorik sonics and intricate mechanical abstractions — eventually drifting into crystalline elegance.
Feeling as much designed for gallery spaces as handheld digital screens (we suspect it'd work well as a projected endless loop), experience the audio-visual majesty of 'Folding Of The Time' then catch a rare live appearance from the trio's Brendan Moran, Stephen Reay and Jared Johanson with Swallow the Rat, and Dictaphone Blues at Tāmaki Makaurau's Whammy Bar on 17th May...
