The final piece of the puzzle slips into place: Ekko Park have slotted in their latest single ‘Phase Her’ on their fresh EP Let’s Talk About Last Night… The End Of The World. In their four-track collection, the Aotearoa Music Award 2022 nominees dish out sonics from one of my fave nostalgic eras, in which bands like Linkin Park and Green Day ruled. Jessie Booth ripples the air with scorching guitar playing behind Joe Walsh’s fiery vocals in ‘Phase Her’. This follows ‘Outrun The Rain’, which charted in the NZ Top 20 for months and Walsh’s autobiographical closer, ‘The North’.
The thing I love about rock is the energy it instils in me, stronger than coffee, so I’m shaking to check out Ekko Park perform their first headline show at Big Fan in Morningside tonight. The amps will even drip out the sounds of indie rock support acts Fan Club (winners of the 2023 Auckland Central Smoke-Free Rock Quest) and streaming stars Where's Jai?
