In celebration of its two-decade milestone, beloved arts crucible and infamous bar and music venue of Tāmaki Makaurau, The Wine Cellar, is taking centre stage in new podcast “It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time” (with Rohan Evans) | In The Pits Episode 01.

Join host, Rachel Ashby (95bFM Breakfast) and founder and owner of The Wine Cellar, Rohan Evans, as they deep dive the last 20 years in the basement of Karangahape Road’s St Kevin’s Arcade. As Evans says, “there’s a lot to unpack.”

Hear about the communities that have graced The Wine Cellar over the last two decades. The untold stories that have unfolded between its walls. The musicians who played there. The punters who drank there. What has evolved and what has remained, and of course, the story of the man, the myth, the legend, Rohan Evans.

For everyone who is, has been, or wished they could be, a bar fly on the wall in Tāmaki Makaurau’s most well-loved music den.

In The Pits is a collaborative endeavour of creative quartet Rachel Ashby, Annabel Kean, Zoë Larsen Cumming, and Callum Devlin. It is a podcast born out of a shared love of the venue, and respect for the infrastructure that supports the indescribably cool, varied, and talented music communities of Tāmaki Makaurau and Aotearoa.
