Watch Anna Coddington's Video For 'Mōhou Rā' - New Album 'Te Whakamiha' Out In June

Anna Coddington (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Te Arawa, Ngāti Whakaue) has cleared the way for Te Whakamiha, her first full length studio record since 2020's Beams. Winner of the 2022 Waiata Māori Music Award for Best Māori Album in Te Reo for her Mana-Wā-Hine EP, the Tāmaki-based artist conceives the new album as a reo rua / bilingual "Māori funk" collection sung in te reo and English, drawing inspiration from "Prince-inspired funk, neo-soul, R&B & disco vibes". Coddington has already gifted us the celebratory grooves of 'Kātuarehe' and the propulsive guitar-pop goodness of latest single from the album 'Mōhou Rā' — both accompanied by sparkling visuals shot / edited by Fen Ikner (Lips).

Roughly translating as the name of her longterm band The AppreciationsTe Whakamiha is made specifically with fun and enjoyment in mind. You can preorder the limited vinyl LP edition HERE and get hyped for Te Whakamiha, out in full on 28th June via Loop Recordings in perfect sync with Matariki — Coddington's first ever vinyl LP release in a storied career that includes finalist placings for the Taite Music Prize and Aotearoa Music Awards. Feel the uplifting energy of 'Mōhou Rā' ("which roughly means 'for you'") and 'Kātuarehe' (meaning "to be outstanding, marvelous") below...

"Tēnei kiriata hoki! Beautiful lyric video made by Fen Ikner (who also slayed the drums in this tune!) from the rerehua artwork of Te Kahureremoa Taumata.

I wrote this song when I was feeling vulnerable, but determined and hopeful. As always Ruth Smith has captured the wairua immaculately in the reo Māori translation.

Kei ngā waewae o te motu kua takahi i ngā huarahi hei porōtehi ki ngā kaupapa kino- Tēnā koutou!

Koia rā ahakoa te aha, māku e whakaea, ahakoa rā te wawata, mōhou rā. The short of it is whatever it takes, I'll do it I will make it right.

In its own way this is a song about mokopuna decisions."

Bop along with 'Kātuarehe' from Anna Coddington's forthcoming album Te Whakamiha, shot and edited by Fen Ikner of Lips...

'Te Whakamiha' is out on Friday 28th June via Loop Recordings — limited edition vinyl LP preorders available HERE / pre-save the album HERE.
