Violet Hirst Unveils Single / Video 'For You'
Violet Hirst returns with surging synth-inflected single and homemade video 'For You', the first song to emerge since last year's debut album Donegal. Co-produced by De Stevens and Hirst and mastered by Bevan Smith, 'For You' features Kane Strang on bass alongside his fellow Office Dog drummer Mitchell Innes on percussion, plus Reuben Scott (Daffodils, Molly Payton, Salt Water Criminals) playing multiple guitars. The visuals were captured in the songwriter's home base of Ōtepoti, filmed by Strang operating a Handycam, following Hirst’s choreography along a frigid beach. She stirs us into dance while singing curiously contradictory lyrics, deliberately bordering the fringes of "such good love" that "never listens" and is “never stable" — evoking imagery of a mound topped with lavenders and a poisonous world silently ingested into one’s stomach.
Violet Hirst is currently keyboardist and backing vocalist for Office Dog, who were filmed last night playing at UTR’s Live Music Bar produced by Sports Team (watch the debut episode with Earth Tongue HERE) — look forward to their episode in the near future. Bop along with 'For You', then catch Hirst playing support for Office Dog's US tour fundraiser, this Saturday in Tāmaki Makaurau and Sunday in Pōneke...
