The Wendys Unleash Debut Album 'Let's Go To The Beach'
You won't catch me taking a dip this chilly time of year, but that doesn't mean we can't collectively dream of oceanic beach-bum bliss with the assistance of Ōtautahi's surf-punk lifeguards The Wendys. The culmination of a decade's worth of wave-riding / garage rockin' tunecraft, the group propose Let's Go To The Beach on their long-awaited inaugural collection, co-produced with Ryan Fisherman and now out in the wild, on limited Surf Lifesaving Red and landlubbing traditional black vinyl LP editions.
These surfin' birds get downright scuzzy on their twelve track debut — dialling up the venturesome 'Agent 326' via mysterious surf vibrations, bashing out Godzilla-scale grooves in 'Arabian Books', a tsunami of tubular licks on 'Black and White Stripes', the Memphis rock grunt of 'Mad Maxine', retelling the free-roaming tale of 'Rudy Shirtless' and even covering Larry & The Loafers' namesake 1966 classic — all repping a gloriously untamed, no-fucks-given spirit akin to Aotearoa's legendary Stink Magnetic Record Co. Guaranteed good times aplenty, grab your boogie board and paddle along to The Wendys' album release tour, this week hitting Barrytown Hall and Canterbury's Space Academy...
