Play Phoebe Rings’ New Video Game 'Starfall'
Like the teeth of the Cheshire Cat from Alice In Wonderland, an oversized smile easily creeps across your face when you play Phoebe Rings’ free new video mini-game Starfall. In the spirit of relaunching their dreamy self-titled EP this October via US label Carpark Records (pre-order it HERE), the Tāmaki collective have unveiled an online interactive experience where stars cascade from the night sky. Created by their bassist Ben Locke, players are tasked with controlling a tiny kitten, where they “collect gems, boop baddies and unlock new cat friends along the way!" while unlocking SNES versions of every song on the EP — starting with their newly reissued SRN hit 'Cheshire'.
Frontwoman Crystal Choi shared online today that the song is about "self-acceptance". Choi reflects upon the moments she has been able to enjoy who she is but notes how "those moments [disappear] like a Cheshire cat". The song follows 'Daisy', the one track that is a bonus addition to the upcoming EP reissue. Phoebe Rings recently revealed the support acts for their November tour too: T. G. Shand joins for Ōtautahi, cc(tv) and Na Noise in Tāmaki Makaurau, and synth-punk beet-wix for Te Whanganui-a-Tara. What a team! Plus tonight in Auckland, Choi is playing at Ponsonby Social Club as part of city / dream-pop shredder Mark Bulos’ band...
