Ripship Unveil Single / Video 'New Mexico'

Chris Cudby / Friday 29th November, 2024 9:58AM

Now honing their craft in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, it's been a minute since we've seen or heard a new release from sci-fi / psych dynamos Ripship, whose debut album Fearsome Engine was a late '22 highlight. The duo of Callum Lincoln and Rae McLean's new single 'New Mexico' is a timely tune, considering the current chatter in US Congress surrounding "secret UFO retrievals" — zooming along a sleek motorik guitar / drums / electronic groove while telling their own firsthand tale about outer space coverups.

Unpacking "a story behind a grainy picture of a weather balloon in a newspaper headline", Ripship's sonic love letter to ufology is accompanied by a vibe-setting video montage of 20th century flying saucer encounters. A magnificent return, tipping the hat to trailblazers of the form Trans Am and early Dimmer, experience 'New Mexico' and catch the pair wrapping up their Eyegum Scenic Tour this weekend — with Bad Taste plus special guests in Ōtautahi and Ōtepoti...
