Listen to Salt Water Criminals' New Album 'I Believe In Dog'
Launched a few weeks ago and now an evident highlight of the Jenga / Hellraiser puzzle that is NZ Music Month, I Believe in Dog is the multi-dimensional second long player from Ōtepoti-bred collective Salt Water Criminals. Fronted by Reuben Scott (Nic and Reuben, Three Quarter Marathon) and featuring members of Office Dog, Daffodils, and Awning, SWC weave inventive tapestries of post-punk / power-pop / avant-rock across a generous eleven tunes laid down "in a few rooms across central Auckland".
Standouts among an abundance of highs include the fuzz-frazzled, sharp-as-a-tack title track, the motorik / slowcore / jangly reflections of 'Boredoom' and 'Grow', emotively country-fried pop-bop '15/52', the rhythmically spry, poetic observations of 'These Words Are For Sale', and the hook-packed curveballs of 'The Patient Type'. Having wrapped up their release tour earlier this month, you can catch SWC next tearing it up as part of the indomitable bill for JUNK 2025 festival, at Tāmaki Makaurau's St. Kevin's Arcade venue hub on 7th June...
