Pulp Return With New Album 'More'

Chris Cudby / Friday 6th June, 2025 10:14AM

"I was born to perform / It's a calling". British music icon / iconoclast Jarvis Cocker got the ball rolling with Pulp as a plucky teen in 1978, yet it took a decade and a half for him to achieve omnipresent UK pop rag fame with the Britpop-era defining triple whammy of His 'n' Hers (1994), Different Class (1995), and This Is Hardcore (1998). Despite Pulp's last official studio album We Love Life coming out in 2001, Cocker has never been knocked off his perch since, smoothly segueing to BBC broadcaster / tastemaker / media personality status, drip-feeding fans quality releases solo and with his "ongoing live experience" Jarv Is. Possibly the most anticipated reunion record since Kevin Shields finally decided to put an album out again, Pulp's first studio long player in twenty four years More fits happily in the rapturously received, "aura intact" m b v / Songs of a Lost World camp, rather than being an overcooked Chinese Democracy-esque rock fizzer.

More is a genuine reunion album, bringing back together members from Pulp's imperial phase Candida Doyle, Nick Banks and Mark Webber with Cocker at the helm — dedicated to Steve Mackey, who passed away in 2023 and played on every Pulp record since 1987's Freaks. Laid down over just three weeks in London last year with James Ford, special guest contributors to this special musical occasion pressed to wax include Chilly Gonzales, the Eno family, Elysian Collective, former member Richard Hawley, and Jason Buckle.

Jarvis Cocker understands Pulp's audience has aged along with him, empathetically crooning "nobody wants to grow up" in the cards on the table 'Grown Ups'. Fans are in safe hands, as Pulp take them on a journey to puncture through the nostalgia barrier via post-disco opulence, boppy new wave, smouldering soul-funk, arms in the air orchestral pop and lots more. If you love Pulp it'd be odd not to enjoy More, tuck in and nab a physical copy at your friendly local record store...

"We hope you enjoy the music. It was written & performed by four human beings from the North of England, aided & abetted by five other human beings from various locations in the British Isles. No A.I. was involved during the process". - Jarvis Cocker

'More' is out today on major streaming platforms via Rough Trade Records.
