Arguably Aotearoa's best kept secret in indie-rock, Dateline are the world-class team of Katie Everingham, Hikurangi Schaverien-Kaa, Phoebe Johnson and Reuben McDonald, who've consistently dazzled with back to back long players It's All Downhill From Here (2024), and Dumb For My Age (2022). Ahead of a mini-round of winter gigs for Everingham and band, Dateline today grace our hump day with new visuals for highlight from their last record 'Wake Up Slowly'. A sincere expression of love and appreciation for her long-term partner, the ballad was recorded in Everingham's lounge with Oli Devlin (Hans Pucket) and mixed by Jonathan Pearce (The Beths), who also introduced heart-swelling sampled flutes. Director Finn Hyndman amplifies these intimate feelings further with a cosy and romantic domestic clip, co-starring Ella Yiannoutsos and Tia Hibbert.

Lucky Tāmaki Makaurau dwellers will be treated to a free Dateline performance this Thursday at Whammy Public Bar (from 7pm), while Pōneke fans can catch Everingham and Devlin playing together at Vogelmorn Upstairs, singing "some songs to try make some money for recording more music and going to the dentist". Both worthy causes!

"Wake Up Slowly is basically a love song to my partner. It was me taking a moment to reflect on the love and comfort I feel with her after being together for almost a decade. Life can get so busy, especially raising a toddler together, it’s easy to speed through the days without acknowledging how beautiful something is."
- Katie Everingham

"For this music video, we wanted to try to capture the most quiet, intimate moments of a relationship, through only the moments shared in bed," says Hyndman. "Just the things that do sometimes feel the most real." - Finn Hyndman
