Aphrodite (UK) Returning to Aotearoa New Zealand in July
British pioneer of jungle and drum n bass, Aphrodite's influence looms large over a new generation of low end-blasting producer / DJs on a global scale. Emerging from the late '80s rave / acid era, Aphrodite first made his mark at the dawn of the nineties with a stonking run of breakbeat-injected 'ardcore tracks via his Urban Takeover imprint — even hitting the UK top forty with 'Some Justice' featuring Micky Finn as half of Urban Shakedown, following through in 1999 with his self-titled debut album via V2 Recordings.
Local club-goers are in for an absolute treat, as Aphrodite is returning to Aotearoa next month to headline Tāmaki Makaurau's The Mothership with special guests 48 SONIC, COCO and GETAFIX, preceded by a mid-winter Pōneke rager at Meow Nui. Here are the details...

Press release:
Before drum n bass, before jungle, even before hardcore, APHRODITE was doing his thing. While acid house was the name of the game, back in 1988, this man was already making musical moves. Establishing himself as a producer, and Aphrodite Recordings label owner, by the early nineties, hes been a mainstay of the UK rave scene ever since and helped set the template for jungle music (as it broke away from its hardcore foundations).
As the mid-nineties came along, Aphrodites use of stripped-back, high-energy bass and beats, combined with hip-hop and reggae samples, would make him one of the founding fathers of jump-up drum n bass. Alongside his long-time sparring partner Micky Finn, Aphrodite planted the roots of a style which, years later, now dominates the landscape of DnB in the UK and beyond.
So, given his influence on the whole DnB genre, it’s no wonder that Aphrodites DJ career continues to take him all over the globe. His multi-continental bookings diary, including some of the biggest festivals and clubs the scene has to offer, is, understandably, packed.
Aphrodite tore THE MOTHERSHIP to shreds during his last performance at the venue, and those lucky to be in attendance that night can truthfully attest!
Joining Aphrodite for the evening, we have an all star local support lineup featuring: 48 SONIC, COCO & GETAFIX.
