King Missile (Dog Fly Religion) - John S. Hall & Dogbowl NZ Shows Announced
There was a time during the early nineties when you could not tune into Aotearoa student radio without soon hearing the unmistakable alt-rock avant-beatnik-banter of such classic King Missile cuts as 'Detachable Penis' (which charted in NZ and had a video by Richard Kern), 'Martin Scorsese' and 'The Cheesecake Truck' — opening up a weird world of music to young impressionable minds such as my own. Before they ambushed unsuspecting audiences via MTV's Beavis & Butt-Head show, Brooklyn poet / author John S. Hall and guitarist Dogbowl got the ball rolling as King Missile (Dog Fly Religion), teaming up with producer Kramer to record and release two albums under that name via his NYC imprint Shimmy Disc.
Threatening to release a brand new record using their original moniker in 2025, the groundbreaking duo are heading our way with two headline dates locked in for spring, performing together and as seperate solo acts at Tāmaki Makaurau's Double Whammy and Whitianga's Monkey House Theatre. Head along to and cherish these very special gigs brought to you by Powertool Records...

Press release:
John S. Hall and Dogbowl are the co-founders of King Missile (Dog Fly Religion) the original incarnation of a group that, in various forms, was a college radio staple in the late '80s and early '90s.
In its various forms, King Missile released a string of songs that were resoundingly embraced by American college radio, including “Take Stuff From Work,” “Wuss,” “Sensitive Artist,” “Jesus Was Way Cool,” “Cheesecake Truck,” “Martin Scorsese,” and the hugely popular “Detachable Penis.”
John S. Hall and Dogbowl perform together, and also have separate acts that can be added to the bill: John as a poet/spoken word artist and Dogbowl and a singer/songwriter, whose many albums were released on Shimmy Disc and other labels.
