Listen to Ron Gallipoli's 'An Imposter' Original Cast Recording ft. Billie Fee, Frances Libeau

Listen to Ron Gallipoli's 'An Imposter' Original Cast Recording ft. Billie Fee, Frances Libeau

A live "field opera" experience like no other, An Imposter showcased the on-stage talents of Billie Fee of Grecco Romank (playing Christina), Frances Libeau (Aggie) and playwright / songwriter Sam Bradford aka Ron Gallipoli (performing as Dr Bouganville) — revealing himself to perhaps be Aotearoa's underground answer to Andrew Lloyd Webber. Weaving an increasingly discomforting, yet often sonically jaunty narrative of family lies, psychological manipulation and everyday living as "just another weasel in a country of weasels", all set within a despotic regime that feels closer by the minute, the actor / singers were accompanied by the top tier musicianship of Hermione Johnson on piano, drummer Chris O'Connor, and Grace Williams on bass.

The newly released original cast recording of An Imposter beautifully encapsulates the dark caberet-like magic of the limited theatrical run, recorded by Matthew Gunn at Roundhead Studios. The accompanying Field Opera #1: An Imposter (Handbook) booklet generously features full dialogue / lyrics for the show, chord charts and the illuminating Field Opera Manifesto, orderable via the Bandcamp link below. Find out more with our interview with Ron Gallipoli and Frances Libeau HERE, and don't miss Ron in solo mode at Pōneke's Riften and Vines One Day Music Festival this Saturday, also playing at the official Cool Whanganui Side Show the night before...

"This is the original cast recording of An Imposter, a field opera by Ron Gallipoli / Sam Bradford.

Three people meet in a suburban office for a family therapy session. Christina insists that her mother is a fraud -- not her mother -- an imposter. Aggie says that her daughter is a petulant brat. Dr Bouganville is there to pacify their relationship. But why does the doctor care more about harmony than the truth?

This album is free with the purchase of the book of An Imposter, to encourage you to stage your own performances."
