Listen to Awning's Self-Titled Debut Album
The project of Te Whanganui-a-Tara musician and visual artist Christian Dimick, member of Flying Nun collective Recitals, those with their ears to the ground will already be reaping the rewards of Awning's new self-titled debut album. Emerging late last week with eight tunes laid down in only three days at Roundhead Studios with De Stevens, Dimick with Ethan Broughton, Damin McCabe and Riley Noonan assuredly carve out their own emotive sonic space in a post-Alex G reality. Frazzled and folk-tinted earworms, refreshingly unfussy and poetically clear-eyed, everything lands where it should — we suspect this will be an end of year favourite for more than a few local listeners. Awning's release show at Tāmaki Makaurau's Whammy Bar this Friday (also playing Saturday at Pōneke's Meow) with special guests For The Girl Who Has Everything is sure to be a joyous affair, listen up and head on down...
