O/PUS Unveil Debut Album 'Out At Sea, The Water Is Deep'
The convergence of two (or more) titanic Tāmaki Makaurau noise-punk combos — Olympus and Octopus — O/PUS are the "folk-horror / post-swim" collective of Liz Mathews (Hex, Goldifox), Beth Dawson (Ducklingmonster, Futurians), Jade Farley (Pumice, Cloven Hearts) and Stefan Neville (Pumice, Coolies). Already famed locally for their awe-inspiring live onslaught, the oceanic four-piece today share their debut album Out At Sea, The Water Is Deep, pressed onto shiny vinyl LP disc via 1:12 Records and launching digitally via Stabbies.
Liz Mathews and Beth Dawson revealed that all four members take turns on mic duties during our chat together this week on 95bFM's Freak The Sheep (listenable HERE), which dives deep into the many-tentacled origins and kaupapa of O/PUS, plus the secret weapons used on their record. Make your own descent into the sonic sub-basement of Audio Foundation this Saturday to experience O/PUS in action, with special guests Drop Zone (who recently unveiled their latest album (Don't Think We Did) and Roy Irwin's fab new band too...
