Babe Martin Shares New Single & Video 'Summer Fruit' + Announces EP Release Show

Like a moment of sonic sanctuary in the midst of today's dangerously wild weather (please stay safe indoors where appropriate), 'Summer Fruit' is the third single unveiled from Tāmaki Makaurau songcrafter Babe Martin aka Zoë Larsen Cumming's superbly titled forthcoming Not a Bee, but a Wasp EP. Beautifully sung and arranged, 'Summer Fruit' salutes the intertwining branches of friendship that hold us steady if correctly watered and cared for, accompanied by a an opulent minimal lyric video directed by the artist herself.

Out in full on 14th November via Sunreturn, Babe Martin has announced a special release event for Not a Bee, but a Wasp at Auckland Unitarian Church on 20th November, supported by a rare performance by Schofield Strangelove — the solo project of Navakatoa Tekela-Pule (HANISI GARUE, stylish host of our own Live Music Bar) who also contributed substantially to the EP. "Summer Fruit is a reference to an analogy someone told me when I needed to hear it most. They described how your relationships and community are like an apple tree. You put in the time and care and water it, prune it, tend to it, but sometimes you’re allowed to just lean up against it, sit in its shade, and eat the fruit. Basically - that it’s okay to be vulnerable and allow yourself to be looked after by the relationships that you’ve cultivated when you need to.

As much as Summer Fruit is an ode to friendship, it is very much an inward facing conversation with myself about how my life has changed, very much for the better, but irrevocably. I was seeing the best of myself reflected in my friends, and the best of them reflected in me."
