Premiered via global heavy hitters Decibel earlier this week, two new singles by Aotearoa's mighty Beastwars have now received official digital release, paving the way to their sixth studio album The Ship // The Sea out next Friday. Like a doom-drenched shanty of the briny deep, 'Guardian of Fire' lurches dangerously and pummels eardrums with full fathom five force, while 'The Devil' scorches with infernal trickster heat. Embarking on a nationwide launch tour of NZ later this month, you can preorder the vinyl LP and peruse a sick selection of new Beastwars t-shirt designs HERE. Here's what bandmates Matthew Hyde and Nathan Hickey had to say to Decibel about their bone-shaking double drop...
"On 'Guardian of Fire', we wanted to create a towering dark doom metal track. Slow-burning, atmospheric and elemental to its core. Inspired by themes of water and ancient mysticism, the track rolls and churns like a furious ocean. It’s going to be great to see people try and bob their heads to this one—I’m the drummer and people have asked me to explain the time signature and even I don’t quite get it." - Nathan Hickey
"With 'The Devil' is a heavy, hypnotic track musically inspired by Finnish psychedelic black metal band Oranssi Pazuzu but with our own Beastwars spin. Lyrically the song explores how mainstream media distorts reality. Inspired by global protests and the rising disconnect between lived reality and reported narratives, it’s a challenge to the listener to question who controls the story." - Matthew Hyde
