Spotlight: Auckland Live Christmas In Aotea Square

Summer is here and the festive treats have already arrived for lovers of live music in Tāmaki Makaurau's city centre. Just kicked off over the weekend, Auckland Live Christmas in Aotea Square hosts a stellar selection of local dazzlers, all performing in a specially revamped Aotea Square up until 21st December.

The entirely free and all-ages music programme is sure to get you and fam boogieing with a world class lineup of soul, jazz, RnB, hip-hop and pop stars, playing Thursday and Friday evenings. Upcoming acts include Crystal Chen, LOU'ANA, Romi Wrights, Island Vibes, Sabreen, Zoe Moon, Moana Rising, MOHI, Jordyn with a Why, Ella Monnery and PAIGE.

There's also a smorgasbord of free weekend performances and arts activities to tuck into, including NYEGE: A Festive Wellness Carnival — "a vibrant fusion of Afro-diasporic rhythm, wellness, and joy" — happening all day this Saturday as part of the inaugural Aotearoa Festival of Black Art, Yuletide Ukulele with The Nukes performance and workshop, The Elves are AWOL circus spectacular, GALS - Auckland's Rainbow Choir (Aotearoa's first LGBTQ+ choir) will sing for you, plus you can learn the choreographed moves to KPop Demon Hunters and make shapes at the K-Pop Dance Party.

Beyond the realm of music, comedians Courtney Dawson and Janaye Henry will tickle your funny bone with a split bill of standup sets, Meet The Artists Collective will host speed painting plus lots more, and there'll be an outdoor screening of animated feature film Arthur Christmas (preceded by games, face painting and free popcorn). Aotea Square itself will be illuminated by the The Christmas Pavilion and Neon Star by Angus Muir Design, and attendees can munch on some free ice cream and fries from The Terrace / the Container in the Square (while stocks last, follow the link below for details).
