Carving out their own anarcho-synth-punk space somewhere between Atari Teenage Riot and Coneheads, DISPLEASURE's new album ANNIHILATION / BILLIONAIRE DEATH DRIVE confronts our techno-oligarchical era with an eleven track barrage of warp-speed percussion, reality-shredding guitars / electronics and laser-focused screeds. Sounding less Devo-like and more industrial than their also superb 2022 debut VORTEX OF SHIT, DISPLEASURE are of course the cyber-jacked reconfiguration of Te Whanganui-a-Tara's Unsanitary Napkin.

While relentless grimness is very much the point, ANNIHILATION / BILLIONAIRE DEATH DRIVE resists capitalism's hyper-accelerated slide to genocidal authoritarianism via nonstop fun sonic blast and hope-embodying rejection of ethical compromise. One example: the album (notably not out on Spotify and Amazon) includes a guffaw-inducing cringey closing soundbite from "intellectual phenomenon" Jordan Peterson.
