Leftfield (UK) Announce Auckland & Wellington Headline Shows

Chris Cudby / Thursday 4th December, 2025 8:00AM

Sung by a snarling John Lydon, Leftfield's 1995 breakout hit 'Open Up' was a key moment in the popularisation of electronic beats across the planet and right in here Aotearoa, where it was in constant rotate on Max TV and student radio. Founded by Neil Barnes (who has steered the ship solo from 2010 onwards) with Paul Daley, Leftfield's debut album Leftism and follow up Rhythm and Stealth are rightly considered classics of the era, preempting the '90s electronica / big beat explosion alongside similarly seminal works by UK peers Chemical Brothers and Prodigy.

Emerging from London's all-cylinders firing club scene in 1989, Leftfield will be back in Aotearoa New Zealand at the tail end of summer for a belated celebration of their 35th anniversary, with headline dates just announced for Auckland's The Powerstation on 1st March and Wellington's Meow Nui on 2nd March. Leftfield's first visit in eight years — during which they released 2022's long player This Is What We Do, which notably featured Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten — these shows are on top of Leftfield's scheduled appearance at Electric Avenue festival in Christchurch. An originating force that has reshaped the sound of dancefloors worldwide, do not miss the mighty return of Leftfield, brought to you by MG Live and Frontier Touring...

"It will be 36 years since I released the first Leftfield track, ‘Not Forgotten’, and 31 years now of Leftism. It feels like the perfect time to celebrate and I’m so pleased that finally we get to come back to New Zealand and Australia. Let’s make it unforgettable. Can’t wait to see you there!"

Press release:

MG Live and Frontier Touring proudly announce Leftfield – one of electronic music’s all-time greatest acts – with very special headline shows for 2026 as they continue their celebration of their 35th anniversary (36 at the time of writing).

The iconic British pioneers of progressive house and experimental electronic music will launch their March 2026 tour in New Zealand, starting at Auckland’s Powerstation on Sunday 1 March, and continuing at Meow Nui in Wellington on Monday 2 March. They then head to Australia for a run of east coast dates, beginning at The Tivoli in Brisbane on Thursday 5 March, followed by Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Saturday 7 March, and concluding at Live at the Gardens in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens on Sunday 8 March.

Leftfield’s most recent release was a collection of remixes of ‘Full Way Round (Ft Grian Chatten)’, and they have also been touring across the UK and Europe throughout 2025 to bring their 2022 album This Is What We Do to life.
