Listen to AW's Debut Album 'THE NERVE' + Touring in March
Emerging at the dawn of the millennium to become icons of 21st century Aotearoa noise-punk, Die! Die! Die!'s output if anything has been sounding more and more ambitious, reaching majestic heights on 2021's This Is Not An Island Anymore. Singer / guitarist Andrew Wilson extends his vision beyond Die! Die! Die!'s scorching pummel with his solo project AW, unchaining avenues in post-punk in collaboration with drummer and producer Stefan Neville on THE NERVE. Neville's gloriously unpolished magic touch synergises with Wilson's sleek songcraft, creating a debut album that feels startlingly fresh and unique in Aotearoa's contemporary sonic landscape — often bracingly direct, yet playful, poetic, and personal all at once.
Recent student radio chart-toppers 'THIEF OF JOY' and 'THE SAME' are present, sitting amidst a new batch which sounds equally strong, with only one tune clocking over the three minute mark. Much more than a side-quest from Die! Die Die! — still very much in action, playing at Ōhinehou Lyttelton's Port Noise Festival this February — THE NERVE feels like a bold new journey for Wilson and whoever he invites along for the ride. A classic reason as to why everyone should hold off on their end of year best of lists, AW are embarking on a nationwide tour this coming March to celebrate THE NERVE's release and you should go. Also playing at Tāmaki Makaurau's Flying Out store this Saturday from 2pm (free), here are the details for AW's tour...
