Amamelia Announces Auckland Album Release Party + Shares Single '(Listen To) The Sound Of The Wind'
Like we say in showbiz, Naarm-based Aotearoa electronic artist Amamelia aka Amelia Berry has been having "a bit of a moment" in 2026. During the last couple of months she's released new remixes of sci-fi rockers Ripship and digital futurist Frau Knotz, unveiled a major new archival project (Bananamelia! The Music Archive) in collaboration with The National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa, was the subject of a career-spanning AudioCulture profile by music journalism don Martyn Pepperell, and squeezed in standalone single of her own 'Theme From Living' — all setting the scene for her imminent third album The Joy Of Living, out on 17th April via Sunreturn.
Amamelia's brand new single '(Listen To) The Sound Of The Wind' encourages listeners to fully tune in to nature's rhythms, via a wonderfully transportive swirl of trip-hop pop-jangle, tuntablism-adjacent synth squiggles and high school music department woodwind. Van Staden & Böhm bandmate Madison van Staden's vocals radiate inner calm throughout, enquiring "Can your heart hear the sound / Of the roots in the ground / And the stars / Sing above the moon?"
Winner of the 2024 Te Manu Taki Tāhiko o te Tau | Best Electronic Artist Tūī for her second solo album Bananamelia!, Amamelia's just announced release party at Tāmaki Makaurau's Whammy Bar will be a mandatory affair — co-starring Baby Zionov and Samara Alofa, plus the return of Kiss and Make Up Club DJs Lazy Mama and Dustin Diamanté "after a 20 year hiatus." Listen to my recent interview with Amamelia for 95bFM Freak The Sheep HERE, snag tickets immediately and be sure to preorder The Joy Of Living on vinyl LP from good record shops / online...
"I wanted a kind of far out flower child moment on the record. I was listening to a lot of 60s sunshine pop like The Millennium, Free Design, and Margot Guryan and I just love how evocative some of that groovy 60s optimism is."
