The Weed Eaters Big Forking Tour of Aotearoa New Zealand Announced

Modern day phenomenon of Aotearoa horror-comedy cinema, The Weed Eaters has already reaped rave reviews around the globe before it has even been officially released in movie theatres. Produced by Sports Team (geniuses behind UTR's Trash Recital and LIVE MUSIC BAR), directed by Callum Devlin (Hans Pucket) and co-starring former UTR assistant editor Annabel Kean with an all-killer cast — including Alice May Connolly, Samuel Austin, Finnius Teppett (who also wrote the screenplay), David Correos, Paul Kean (The Bats, Toy Love) and Delaney Davidson — the movie took away SXSW Sydney’s Best Feature Film Award and the Jury Prize at Gérardmer International Fantastic Film Festival.

Premiered last August with a sold out swanky soirée at The Civic Theatre, cast and crew are embarking on a madcap 21-stop tour in advance of The Weed Eaters' theatrical launch on 30th April. Famously made on a shoestring and featuring a soundtrack of carefully curated local gems, including tunes by Dave Dobbyn, Lawrence Arabia, Mousey and The Naenae Express, you too will laff out loud and recoil at the genuinely depraved violence on-screen when The Weed Eaters Big Forking Tour rolls into a theatre near you.

"When Jules joins her new boyfriend on a New Year’s Eve getaway with his old high school mates, she’s looking to get some peace and quiet, smoke a bit of weed, and make some new friends. But when the holidaymakers stumble across their host’s long-forgotten stash of ancient weed, things quickly take a turn for the nightmarish. By the time they figure out the weed’s strange effect - an insatiable hunger for human flesh - it’s too late, and the four would-be friends become accidental cannibals. Their efforts to cover up their crime trigger a darkly comic spiral of panic, blame, and even more cannibalism that Jules is determined to survive — even if she’s the only one."

The creators and stars of the award-winning new Kiwi comedy-horror film THE WEED EATERS will be blazing across twelve regions in Aotearoa this April on an unmissable 21-stop tour ahead of the movie’s hotly anticipated April 30 theatrical release.

From Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland to Murihiku Southland, Callum Devlin (director/producer), Finnius Teppett (scriptwriter/producer), and actor-producers Alice May Connolly and Annabel Kean will light up cinema screens with their debut feature, which follows four millennial slackers on a secluded New Year’s getaway.

Stumbling across their reclusive host’s long-forgotten stash of ancient cannabis, their holiday high takes a nightmare turn into accidental cannibalism… Soon the unsuspecting stoners’ friendships, survival skills, and dietary preferences are put to the test in a film that wickedly combines the deadly and the deadpan.
