The Androidss, Chains, Living Clipboards Christchurch Show Announced
There's been much media chatter about how Ōtautahi Christchurch has finally bounced back from 2011's devastating quake, and the proof is in the pudding with this casually announced mega-gig happening at Space Academy on 18th April. A group who could be considered to be ground zero of Aotearoa synth-punk, The Androidss are making a mighty return — featuring Mark Android, Gene-Pool Belmondo, Paul Ramon and Isaac Salek — to bust out a selection of classics, and I must mention this Tāmaki-based fan is feeling the FOMO.
Already a mandatory show, the lineup also includes local music super-collective Living Clipboards — Mark Williams, Denise Roughan and Jim Abbott launching the "splatter vinyl" reissue of their debut album All Over Tawa — and dub-disco all-stars Chains, featuring Richard Larsen, Brian Feary, Hope Robertson, and Taipua Adams). All this plus the availability of delicious pizza equals a legendary evening out at Spacies. More like "Christchurch Tonight" amirite?
3 BAND SHOWCASE HELL YEAH
LIVING CLIPBOARDS – Post-Punk supergroup from Dunedin & Wellington ft. Mark Williams (MarineVille), Denise Roughan (The 3Ds, LBGP) & Jim Abbott (Ghost Club). Veering between “low-slung menace, petulant snarl, and languid pop”, Living Clipboards are celebrating the splatter vinyl reissue of debut LP All Over Tawa.
CHAINS combine melancholy vocals with looping disco basslines and driving, pounding rhythms. Their sound is built on groove based drum machines, heavy disco dub and thick, ambient wall of noise textures. Chains are Richard Larsen (Glass Vaults), Brian Feary (Wurld Series), Hope Robertson (Death and the Maiden), and Taipua Adams (Terror of the Deep).
ANDROIDSS ft. RADIO ON – Let's Get Jumpy! Ōtautahi punk legends Mark Android, Gene-Pool Belmondo, Paul Ramon, and Isaac Salek bring us a set of Androidss hits. Iggy Pop went to the see the Androidss, now we get to! Be still my rocking heart.
