Auckland Philharmonia with a trio of award-winning Aotearoa stars will illuminate Auckland Town Hall's Great Hall for Matariki: Waiata Anthems In Concert on 9th July. An all te reo Māori musical spectacular celebrating Te Tau Hou Māori (the Māori New Year), singers Jordyn with a Why, MOHI, Geneva AM and South Auckland school group Te Kura Māori o Ngā Tapuwae Kapa Haka will perform songs from the chart-topping Waiata Anthems album, freshly reimagined for the Auckland Philharmonia symphony orchestra.

A major release championing te reo Māori in Aotearoa's sonic landscape, the original Waiata Anthems album (launched in 2019) showcases waiata by such local giants as Tami Neilson, Stan Walker, Drax Project and more, all re-recorded and translated to te reo Māori with project coordinator Dame Hinewehi Mohi. Notably, Matariki: Waiata Anthems In Concert will also spotlight brand new orchestral versions of waiata by Jordyn with a Why, MOHI and Geneva AM. In 2019 Waiata Anthems debuted at No.1 in the NZ Music Charts – the first 100% reo Māori album to do so – and spent 16 weeks in the NZ Top 40.

Experience the original songs from this iconic multi award-winning album, as Auckland Philharmonia and the next generation of up-and-coming young Waiata Anthems artists pay tribute to the album that helped start a movement.
