Reemerging with impeccable timing, deepState aka Tāmaki Makaurau electronic producer Jessica Morgan greets our damp Tuesday with her atmospheric new single and video 'Rain'. Gliding from glittering breakbeat vistas to depth-charge bass drops, 'Rain' indeed channels the future-gazing spirit of such cited '90s-era touchstones as Everything But The Girl and Aotearoa's Strawpeople — boosted by Morgan's soulful vocals to arena-scale EDM magnitude.

Made by Ew Splat aka 3D artist / illustrator Nic Little and made with support from NZ On Air, the digitally animated video for 'Rain' is an island dreamscape of bioluminescent creatures and nocturnal explorations, at one point reminding this viewer of the claustrophobic underwater tunnels of infamously tricky video game Rain World (funnily enough). "I wanted the song to have a floaty, airy quality, anchored by a heavy bass line and driven by a classic breakbeat. The sound brings together several of my ongoing influences, blending elements of downtempo, breakbeat, jungle, trip-hop, and old-school drum and bass.

It’s always easy working with Nic because he has a great sense of creativity and can bring a loose concept to life visually. I described the video idea as a character going to bed while it’s raining outside, which then shifts into a sunset dream sequence."
