Listen to Evie Bamford's Debut EP 'Now Rising, Now Falling'

Bundling together all her singles to date plus two new ones, Now Rising, Now Falling is an assured debut EP from Aotearoa songwriter / multi-instrumentalist Evie Bamford. Sounding older than her years (the collection "documents a period of transition as Evie moved into her mid-20s") as she croons "I'm just trying to get through the day" on the loping opening track, Bamford combines purposeful, sometimes playful jazz-tinted arrangements with an evident knack for resonant, interior storytelling across the six track release.

Memorable one-liners like "I'm the best company I can find for me around town" leap out from the boppy 'Company', the languorous soulful jangle of 'Daily Bread' reminds these ears of fellow traveller Heavy Chest, piano-led ballad 'Make Me Feel Better' moves with oceanic grace, and the romantic, quietly accomplished 'Your Girl' rounds out a substantial first collection — "And still the world turns."

Bamford and her live band featuring Jeremy Richardson, Hugo Butler and Rory Johns are heading to the capital this week to play the very popular Eyegum Free Wednesdays at San Fran, then have launch shows teed up for Tāmaki Makaurau and Whāingaroa. Bamford will also be supporting smooth music maestro Nat Hathaway's Catrina, Go album release gig this month at Ponsonby Social Club, listen up and catch her on stage...
