Slumbug Unleash Self-Titled Debut Album
It's been a banner year for Aotearoa's heavy music underground — witness the breakout successes of Windswept and Earth Tongue — and now metal fiends can feast upon the distorted riffage of Slumbug's long-awaited self-titled debut album. The Tāmaki Makaurau trio of Jessica Paton, Lucy Eldby and Carla Tinsley's doomy, Sabbath-like heft and occult obsessions ('Even The High Priestess Fucks Up Sometimes') echo long lost local coven HEX, combined with snarling hardcore punk dedication to drive listeners into a contorted frenzy.
Pitilessly scorching from top to tail, Slumbug was superbly recorded / mixed with loudness in mind by Ciara Bernstein (CHEMCHAIN), the "last album to have been recorded at The Vault" — the DIY venue's closure alluded to in the excoriating 'Selfish Living'. Out now on limited edition 'adularescent smoke' and classic bogan black vinyl LP, Slumbug are playing all-ages launch events with special guests this Saturday at Big Fan in Morningside, and at Okahukura in Tauranga, plus they have an awesome new limited tee designed by @caalala.art. Experience the dark intensity of Slumbug, and catch the trio onstage this weekend and next...
