Press Release:

MULTI-VOCALIST HYPERPOTAMUS TOURS NZ IN SEPT/OCT

Hyperpotamus is a London-based multi-vocal solo artist from Madrid, Spain. He makes music using only his voice, a few microphones and a loop pedal. Armed with his unique sound and impressive live show, you can see Hyperpotamus live in N.Z for the very first time this Sept/Oct.

After 10 years of playing in bands as a drummer and pianist Hyperpotamus grew weary of the whole scene, ditched the eternal cycle of dragging drums from one unsavoury dive to another, and went solo, big time. Rehearsing his new act in the underground tunnels of Madrid’s metro stations, Hyperpotamus confounded unsuspecting passers-by. Before long he was opening at more conventional venues for local bands and the Hyperpota-buzz kicked off in Madrid and soon after, the whole country.

Only 6 months after his first fling at busking Hyperpotamus was playing in front of thousands of people all over Spain and has barely had time to draw a breath since. In 2009 he self-released his debut ‘Largo Bailon’ and in January this year he released ‘Delta’ via El Molino. Hyperpotamus has played all over the world, including festivals such as; SXSW, NXNE, The Big Chill, Primavera, Benicassim, BAM, Wilsonic and Bratislava Jazz Days and has opened for such diverse acts as Animal Collective, Scorpions, Two Gallants and Buck 65.

“When I sing as Hyperpotamus, I let the demons out, I sing my heart out. It becomes something very physical: air is sucked in, only to be exhaled at a great force, making me feel dizzy with glee!”

Catch him live in NZ:

Friday Sept 28, Leigh Sawmill, Leigh
Saturday Sept 29, Golden Dawn, Auckland
Wednesday Oct 3, Cabana, Napier
Friday Oct 5 Mighty Mighty, Wellington*
