While studying at Oberlin College, soon-to-be bandmates Nick Weiss and Logan Takahashi connected over a shared love of classic house and techno records that prompted them to make "some kind of dance music that wasn't just emulating what we were hearing". They formed their music organically, improvising over loops that eventually became full-fledged compositions. This lead to their first release as Teengirl Fantasy, and a subsequent partnership with powerhouse New York label True Panther (Glasser, Unknown Moral Orchestra, Real Estate) for their debut album, 7AM.

The album was a breakthrough, landing itself squarely atop 2010 year-end lists from Pitchfork, XL8R and others, with FACT Magazine naming their single 'Cheaters' their best song of that year.

Following on from this success they return in 2012 with the more inward-facing Tracer, featuring prominent vocal collaborators Panda Bear, Laurel Halo and Romanthony (of Daft Punk's One More Time fame), in addition to newcomer Kelela. They call their craft "a wacked version of the pop format" and the album's heavily layered approach has seen it widely praised from these corners once again. A partnership with legendary R&S Records (Aphex Twin, Ken Ishii) has widened their scope further, and now they find themselves coming to Australia and New Zealand for the first time.

Teengirl Fantasy are renowned for their artful approach to recording and shows, preferring live recordings and hefty amounts of analog equipment. According to their press release, this tour will be "atypical for electronic dance music - colourful, maximalist textures and tones that move along with a driving rhythm yet still retain a distinctly human and emotional core".

Fresh off Melbourne Music Week, Teengirl Fantasy will be bringing their live show to New Zealand for one show only this November at brand new Wellington venue Puppies. Meticulously blending house, techno and R&B into dance monsters as well as highly detailed soundscapes, this is sure to be a highlight amongst an already stellar show season.
