The Stooges Drummer Scott Asheton Dies

Monday 17th March, 2014 2:48PM

The Stooges drummer Scott "Rock Action" Asheton has died at age 64. His death was announced by Stooges frontman Iggy Pop, who wrote on Facebook: "Scott was a great artist, I have never heard anyone play the drums with more meaning than Scott Asheton. He was like my brother. He and Ron have left a huge legacy to the world. The Asheton’s have always been and continue to be a second family to me."

Scott co-founded The Stooges in Detroit in 1967 along with his brother Ron, friend Dave Alexander and Iggy Pop. Although he is an official member of the band he hasn't toured with The Stooges since 2011 due to severe stroke and illness. He last recorded with the group for their 2013 album Ready To Die. During his career, Scott also drummed for Scott Morgan Band, Scots Pirates, Sonic's Rendezvous Band and Dark Carnival. The cause of his death is yet unknown.

The news follows last week's announcement that The Stooges were working on an album of unreleased songs without Iggy.
