Tiny Ruins Announce Special Show + New Single 'Carriages'

Folk three-piece Tiny Ruins have announced a one-off show at the historic Crystal Palace theatre in Mt Eden, Auckland. The beautiful cinema, which closed its doors in 2005, has a special place in the heart of the band, underneath is the recording studio The Lab where they tracked their new album Brightly Painted One, which will be out May 2nd on Spunk/Arch Hill. For the June show, frontwoman Holly Fullbrook is assembling all the musicians that helped lay down the record, so that the performance will encompass a full-band including violin, brass and organs. To accompany this announcement the group have unveiled the hauntingly beautiful new single, 'Carriages'. Here are the show details and take a listen to carriages below...

Tiny Ruins are excited to announce a very special show at the Mt Eden historical theatre, Crystal Palace. The theatre holds significance for Tiny Ruins as it is directly above The Lab studios where the new album, Brightly Painted One was recorded.

Band doyen, Hollie Fullbrook, is busily gathering all the musicians and instruments that were used to make the record. “On stage we’ll have a full band including violin, brass and organs. We’re really want to make it a special night and recreate the album with the people that recorded it, pretty much right where it all happened.”

This follows a flurry of international attention including U.S. public broadcaster, NPR debuting album track, The Ballad Of The Hanging Parcel on their highly regarded All Songs Considered programme. 34 million listeners tune into at least one NPR show a week including All Songs Considered.

From the UK, BBCs Lauren Laverne has already tweeted to her over 300’000 followers “The new album by Tiny Ruins is ludicrously, chill-makingly, spellbindingly wonderful”.

For Tiny Ruins, this all comes as they are packing their bags to get to the UK where they begin an extensive tour supporting Neil Finn as well as some of their own headline shows. Formed as a solo project in 2009 by songwriter Hollie Fullbrook, the band now includes bassist Cass Basil and drummer Alexander Freer. While continuing to be based in their native New Zealand, Tiny Ruins has spent much of the past three years touring throughout Australia, Europe & the US, opening for artists such as Beach House, Joanna Newsom, Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, The Handsome Family and Calexico.

Brightly Painted One will be released 2nd May, 2014 on Spunk / Arch Hill in New Zealand and Australia, 5th of May via Bella Union in UK/Europe, and 13th of May on Flying Nun in the USA.
