Free Screenings For 'Hit So Hard' Documentary Announced

Wednesday 21st May, 2014 10:04AM

When the name Hole gets mentioned most minds jump to polarising singer Courtney Love, but behind the fractious frontwoman on the drums was Patty Schemel - a woman with a dark story of her own. Behind the scenes film Hit So Hard, documents "the life and near death story of Patty Schemel", charting the drummer's early life, her coming out as a lesbian, joining the band and her eventual addiction to crack cocaine. The film was stitched together using Hi8 footage the musician shot herself while on tour with the group in the mid-ninties and includes interviews with her bandmates and other musicians.

Ahead of Schemel's impending visit to New Zealand with her recently formed band Upset, there are free screenings of Hit So Hard in Wellington and Auckland over the next week. Upset will be playing three shows across the country with Canadian group White Lung next month, see here for details of the tour and to buy tickets.
