Video: Great North - Up In Smoke (UTR Premiere)
Auckland alt-folk group Great North are premiering their fantastically dark new video for single 'Up In Smoke'. The intriguing clip follows a underwear-clad man casually sifting through junk piles in the dump before coming across the surprising find of a strange little dog, at which point he seems ecstatic to have found a friend... but he has slightly more sinister intentions in mind. It was directed by Damian Golfinopoulos, who made a clip for Girls Pissing On Girls Pissing earlier this year, but this time he is working under the helm of Candlelit Pictures - the up-and-coming company that created the stunning video for Sheep, Dog & Wolf track 'Glare'. G
reat North bassist Rachel Donnell says the video for 'Up In Smoke' avoids tired music video narrative tropes, without being crazy just for the sake of it, adding: "At first I was sceptical when they said they'd find a rubbish dump, the world's ugliest dog, an old piano and a mechanical bull. But they pulled it off." The rolling song is the eponymous track from the Auckland band's recently released third album. Watch the excellent video below...
