Video: Popstrangers - Don't Be Afraid

Thursday 19th June, 2014 10:08AM

A transgender woman bearing an uncanny resemblance to Lana Del Rey takes centre stage in the new video for 'Don't Be Afraid' by ex-pats Popstrangers. The song is taken from the London-based group's sophomore album Fortuna, which was released last month (read our review here). Directed by Liam Healy, the clip opens with song's growling bassline and the pouting blonde preparing for her inaugural performance. She then heads to a dingy pub to dance for a small group leering men, and hits her stride as the track becomes blissfully light in tone. Healy explains the videos synergy with the song as evoking the rush of emotions that comes with doing something for the first time: "The initial sick-with-nerves feeling, the rejection of your inhibitions and then that final release when you are not afraid anymore".
