A Low Hum Launches Alternative Music Awards
Ian Jorgensen, aka Blink, aka the guy behind A Low Hum, is turning the tradition of music awards on its head with the creation of The Year In Music. The inaugural and radical take on "music awards" will run in six categories and intends to give a "fair and transparent and reflective of an entire year of music through multiple genres, scenes and communities," according to Jorgensen.
The Wellington resident, who recently challenged the New Zealand music industry's status quo with his book The Problem With New Zealand Music And How To Fix & Why I Started And Ran Puppies, says he wanted to create a credible awards ceremony for the fans and the global music community that lived on forever and "not just one night of back slapping and slightly increased xmas sales figures".
There are six categories for The Year In, these are: album of the year, song of the year, live performance of the year, video of the year, album cover of the year and poster of the year. Contributors have until the Monday 1st December to submit their entries, which will then be subject to a voting process. Read more over here on the Low Hum website.
In other Blink-related news, Jorgensen is planning to publish a series of art books filled with band photography he has shot over the last 15 years. You can find out more about that project over here.
