Here's Five: Ghost Wave

Here's Five: Ghost Wave

Tuesday 23rd December, 2014 11:18AM

Auckland outfit Ghost Wave are currently working on a new record tentatively titled Radio Norfolk, but band member Matt Paul will be emerging from the studio on New Year's Eve to play a DJ set at Bodega, alongside DJ Serpico (Minuit), Shocking Pinks and more. With the end of 2014 rapidly approaching we asked Matt his five stand out musical moments of the year and this is what he came up with..

1. Action Bronson's 'Easy Rider' music video
I have watched this so many times, the whole thing rips from start to end.

2. Nick Cave's 20,000 Days On Earth documentary

I feel like this film kinda serves as a testament to our times in a lot of way. I'm not a huge Nick Cave fan per se, but I have been into the Birthday Party etc a little more and I definitely get his vibe. In any case, I liked this movie cause it just shows that rock 'n' roll music is changing but it's still alive and doing good things for people, helping us understand ourselves, and I guess that is what i got out of it, which is a good yearly reminder.

3. Mark Ronson and Kevin Parker - 'Daffodils'

I like the kinda hyper_robotic rhythm, weird synth parts seem to work.

4. Kendrick Lamar performing 'I' live on SNL

I love the vibe of the band, taking it next level.

5. Panda Bear - 'Boys Latin'

Good to hear a bit of new Panda Bear this year, his vibes always take me out of my zone. I know most of his songs pretty well so it's good when there's something new to get into. I also liked the Ariel Pink song 'Black Ballerina', which would be a close contender, the Scottish voiceover part is hilarious.

Matt will be performing a DJ set on New Years Eve At Bodega alongside performances from DJ Serpico (Minuit), Shocking Pinks, Permanence (Christchurch) and more. Head over here for details and to buy tickets.

UnderTheRadar will be publishing our own 2014 Round Up in the next week, so stay tuned for that!
