Shunkan, the solo project by Invercargill-based Marina Sakimoto, has evolved into a five-piece band over the past year. Sakimoto, who migrated to New Zealand's deep south from Los Angeles, still sits at the core of the project, but latest single 'Our Names' shows a real diversification in sound from previous EP シュンカン I, a bedroom-recorded slice of experimental synth-driven shoegaze. This new track, the first single lifted from forthcoming release The Pink Noise, is a short, punchy rock-out reminiscent of the grunge heyday. It looks like The Pink Noise will be available mid-April through British label Art Is Hard, in the meantime get this in your ears...
