Wellington-based singer songwriter Louis Baker might only be fairly new to this game but his voice carries the gravitas of a careworn veteran. His new self-titled EP is a warm introduction for anybody who might have stumbled across this curious soul.

What becomes clear early on is that this is no frills, from the heart stuff. Without any of the excess and hullabaloo to distract either Baker or the listener, what you are left with is a record built on honesty and intimacy that keeps you coming back for more.

Opening track 'Birds' strikes a beautiful chord; a glowing number that draws you into Baker's world. His voice serves him best when it's pushed right to the front of the mix. It sounds as if the singer and his guitar are perched right next to your ear. You aren't just hearing the music – you're feeling it.

In just the five tracks that this EP offers you really get a feel for who this man is. Each track is warm and inviting, beckoning you further and further into his world. If this release is anything to go by we can expect to see much more from this talented fellow in the future.
