Buying a pair of turntables & a mixer after seeing DJ Jazzy Jeff perform in Melbourne around 2004, Billy Hoyle began studying the art of turntablism & mixing, collecting music and playing a few gigs around town in the following years before a round-the-world trip landed him in a Rio basement, surrounded by vintage Brazilian records. Coinciding with his foray into beat making and production, Hoyle began incorporating these sounds into his music, leading to a Jackson 5 remix which was played serendipitously by Jazzy Jeff at his Philadelphia Boiler Room set in 2017. Having resided and guested in various bars & clubs around Melbourne, Hoyle’s focus on production has strengthened in recent years, producing on Illy’s ARIA award winning “Bring It Back”, reworking a 60’s Brazilian record that landed airtime from Gilles Peterson, and currently as one half of hip hop duo Man Made Mountain on Melbourne label House of Beige.
