Tour Information
On Saturday 26 June, Dunedin music group Das Phaedrus will play at the Crown Hotel.
Das Phaedrus are Andrew Spittle (guitar/vocals), Piers Graham (drums) and Victor Billot (bass), but their traditional and long standing power trio format has now evolved to a power quadrangle with the addition of Jeremy Taylor.
Wellington-based musician Jeremy Taylor has an unparalleled history as songwriter and guitarist with his groups Throw and Cinematic, proprietor of Slowboat Records, and a regular guest on Radio New Zealand. He has two acclaimed solo albums Black Balloons and Stay in the Air.
The performance will showcase a new album of songs by songwriter Andrew Spittle, which will then be recorded in July at the Port Chalmers studio of Tom Bell.
Das Phaedrus was formed in 1990 and released two underground cassettes as well as playing throughout New Zealand in their short-lived original format.
It later evolved into Dating Godot, All Red Cables and the Charcoal Burners, vehicles for the songwriting odyssey of Andrew Spittle, who has released around 30 independent recordings in the intervening decades.
The 26 June show will be opened with the warbling, sophisticated and ever so slightly sinister pre-electronica of Lost Tape.
Lost Tape is Alex Gilks, formerly of the legendary Die Musikband, creating spooky-sweet pop compositions played on synths and an old organ.
Entry $10.
