French For Rabbits 'The Overflow' Album Release w/ Tararua

info_outline  This tour has been.

Tour Information
New Zealand dream-pop luminaries French for Rabbits released their third album ‘The Overflow’ on the 12th November – and for the first time they will be sharing the songs in a live setting performing the record from start to finish at San Fran on the 11th December.

An extensive album release tour was originally planned for December, but with the ongoing Covid-19 uncertainties and vinyl delays they decided to cancel before announcing. They are thrilled to doing this one-off show in their hometown to celebrate the arrival of their album. They will be joined by special guests Letitia McKenzie (vocals) and Phoebe Johnson (bass, synth).

The show will precede a freshly booked and yet to be announced album release tour slated for March-April 2022.

Their new album ‘The Overflow’ moves the band further into dream-pop territory – shimmering with touches of psychedelia and folk in the skilful hands of Brooke Singer, John Fitzgerald, Ben Lemi, Hikurangi Schaverien-Kaa and Penelope Esplin. The album has already reached number 12 on the NZ Music charts, with singles topping the alternative playlist charts on SRN stations.

“occasionally, a pop album comes out that bucks the trends. It’s almost impossible to place the era of its release because it exists outside of the sonic mile markers that so many other acts point to. It clings to so few tropes and genre conventions that it ends up sounding timeless.” – Tuned Up

“with stunning musicality, it unreservedly offers us French for Rabbits’ luminous creativity.” – 13th Floor

For the show, they will be joined by special guests Tararua - a collective of local artists working in the taonga puoro space. The group creates a sophisticated but accessible mix of taonga puoro, strings, and vibrant vocal harmonies. The group is made up of Ruby Solly, Ariana Tikao, Alistair Fraser, and Phil Boniface. They released their debut album 'Bird Like Men' earlier in the year, on their own label Oro Records, which one reviewer said 'reaches far beyond the expected'

This will be a very special show, giving a chance to celebrate the otherworldly magic of these two groups in a seated setting.

On the night, French for Rabbits will (all going well) have their new album available on limited edition coloured vinyl and CD.

Tickets available from undertheradar.co.nz for $25. Strictly limited to 150 seats.
As a 100+ capacity venue, San Fran will be requiring and checking vaccination certificates on entry.

In the event of a traffic light change and show cancellation - tickets will be refunded.
